Itinerary Day by Day:

Day 1: Arrival Lima.
Assistance on your arrival in Lima and transfer to your
selected hotel. Free time to rest and prepare for starting
your trip around this unusual city and magical country
Day 2: Lima – City Tour. (B)
In the morning, city tour of the "City of Kings", including
the Lima’s Historical Center, visiting Main Square,
Government Palace, City Hall, the Cathedral (Here is the
tomb of Francisco Pizarro, conqueror of Peru), Museum of the
Cathedral, Temple of San Francisco Convent, Lima Colonial
Balconies, Torre Tagle Palace, Paseo de Aguas and Convent de
los Descalzos. Then, drive through the residential district
of San Isidro, visiting El Olivar Park; Miraflores, visiting
the Kennedy Park, Love Park and Larcomar Mall. Free for
lunch. Optional
Day 3: Lima – Iquitos – Tambo Amazonico Lodge. (B) (L)
(D)
Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the airport to board the
regular flight to Iquitos. Reception at the airport you will
be met at the airport by one of our native guides, trained
in Amazon ecology. On the way to the dock you will have a
brief tour of the XIX century colonial city, and its places
of interest. At the dock board a typical Pamacari boat and
navigate on the Amazon River for 4 hours, beginning your
adventure. The majestic Amazon River is 4,000 miles long on
its way to the Atlantic Ocean, and has 200 fish species. You
will see interesting places along your river travelling,
until you arrive to the Tambo Amazonico Lodge. Lunch.
Afternoon, hike to visit a bird community to observe macaws,
parrots and other colorful birds, that are attracted to the
mineral salts of the giant Machimango Tree.
Bring some extra T-shirts because you will also have an
opportunity to trade them for or buy local crafts in the
village of Jaldar. Dinner
Bring your flashlight for an exciting evening boat ride in
search of Black Caiman or other nocturnal creatures. At
night there will be a night expedition in search of
alligators. Dinner. Lodging.
Day 4: Tambo Amazonico Lodge – Pacaya Samiria National
Reserve. (B) (L) (D)
you will want your binoculars and camera for this early
morning boat excursion to the Yarapa Creek for birdwatching.
The Yarapa is known for its many hidden lakes where you will
find the primitive Hoatzin Birds nesting in thorny palm
trees, and Horned Screamers roosting on giant lily pads.
Breakfast.
Leave the Yarapa behind continuing south up the Amazon,
(remember, the current of the river flows south to north)
where you´ll pass through the joining of the river the
Ucayali and Maranon.
This is the actual point where the two great rivers meet to
form the Amazon River. Continue up the Marañon River making
a brief stop in the small town of Nauta before arriving at
the mouth of the Yanayacu-Pucate River, the entrance into
the Reserve. Look for large groups of pink dolphin feeding
here. Stop in the village of 20 de Enero (January 20th) to
visit forest police checkpoint. (You will also get a chance
to see the artificial beaches where villagers are raising
Taricaya and Charapa Turtle eggs as part of the reserves
conservation efforts.)
Continue up the Yanayacu to the village of Yarina.
Interchange experience about local and native life. Yarina
is the last settlement on the Yanayacu River and will be our
base. Here you will get a chance to stretch your legs with a
late morning hike along the Shushupe Trail, where you may
see Squirrel Monkeys, Huapo Negros, Pichicho, or White
Mustachioed Tamarins. We have also seen larger rodents like
Anuje, and Majaz scurrying along the path, and endless
trails of Leaf Cutter Ants.
After lunch, continue up river to Japon Cocha (Lake Japan)
where you will discover an amazing diversity of giant trees
and palms. This lake is literally teeming with aquatic fauna
such as King Fishers, Horned Screamers, White Heron wading
on the banks of the lake, and trees filled with Cormorants
and Anhingas. Squirrel Monkeys, Woolies, and Tamarins are
abundant. You and your guide will also paddle your way into
the Quebrada Martin Caño to explore. Return to Lake Japan.
Dinner camp out in tents at the lake.
Day 5:Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. (B) (L) (D)
Early morning, boat excursion into the Quebrada San Juan
(San Juan Stream) and El Fraile for spectacular birdwatching.
Here you will be able to observe Scarlet, Blue, Red and
Yellow Macaws, with many other exotic bird species. Return
to Yarina for breakfast.
Full day to Chingana Creek where you will quietly paddle in
search of Howler Monkeys and Saimiris. The jungle here is
thick and the trees have grown to form a canopy over the
creek, creating a primate "super highway". Box Lunch.
Back out on the Yarina, you will get a chance to see the
primitive and mysterious Amazon Pink River Dolphin. Dive in
for a closer look!
Afternoon, excursion to Pasto Lake, where families of Giant
River Otter make their home. Continue the journey into the
Del Huapo Stream to observe giant Lupuna and Renaco Trees.
This is also an excellent area to view Macaws. Return to
Yarina.
Evening, boat ride in search of Black Caiman, and other
nocturnal creatures such as Night Jars, Hawks, Owls, Tiger
Heron and Great Potoos. Dinner camp out in tents.
Day 6: Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. (B) (L) (D)
After breakfast, you begin the most interesting tract in the
whole journey, having the opportunity to observe the pink
and gray dolphins. Carry out a handmade fishing tour with
arrows, under the direction of our native guides. With great
care, you will observe the second time what you did not have
the opportunity to see the first time; some enigmatic river
wolves that live in big family flocks in their own burrows.
Lunch.
Take a walk, until you reach some ponds where live huge
Black Caymans (alligators) that can measure up to 6 mts.
long. We then return to Pona Cocha. Dinner. Spend the night
in tents.
Day 7: Pacaya Samiria – Iquitos – Lima. (B)
After Breakfast. Return to Iquitos. At proper time transfer
to the airport and take your flight to Lima. Arrival upon
transfer to your hotel rest day leisure.
Day 8: Puerto Maldonado – Cusco – City Tour and Nearby
Ruins. (B)
Early in the morning, transfer to airport to take a flight
to Cusco.
Assistance on arrival in Cusco and transfer to your selected
hotel. Free time to take a short rest to be acclimatized to
the altitude.
In the afternoon, city tour of Cuzco visiting the Main
Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun or
Korikancha.
Then, drive out of the city to visit the Inca sites of Kenko,
Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive fortress of
Sacsayhuaman, built strategically on a hill overlooking
Cusco; famous for its enormous carved stones joined with
astounding precision to form the outer walls. Some of these
stones stand over 9m / 30ft tall and weight over 350
Day 9: Cusco – Machupicchu. (B) (L)
The day starts with an early morning rise to transfer to
Cusco train station for a three hour train journey to the
famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, also known as "The Lost
City of the Incas". Arrive at Aguas Calientes station
followed by a 30-minute bus drive, climbing 6km of winding
road, to the incredible Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, we´ll
participate in a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting the
Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial (Intiwatana),
the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and
various burial grounds.
After the tour you will have time to stroll around the
archeological site at your leisure. Lunch in a restaurant at
Aguas Calientes town. Late afternoon return to Cusco.
Overnight at selected hotel in Cusco.
Day 10: Cusco – Sacred Valley of the Incas. (B) (L)
Excursion to the "Sacred Valley of the Incas", a succession
of picturesque towns, agricultural terraces and
archaeological sites. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays,
we´ll have the opportunity to bargain with vendors or stroll
at the Pisac's typical Indian market, with a catholic mass
service on Sunday (celebrated in Quechua, the native
language).
Lunch at a local restaurant in the Sacred Valley.
In the afternoon pass through Calca and Urubamba towns to
arrive to the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo,
which was built to guard the entry of this part of the
valley and protect it from enemies of the lower jungles;
consisting in a series of superimposed terraces of carved
stones accessed by long staircases. We will have the
opportunity to walk through the quaint streets of the nearby
town, religious and agricultural centre during the Inca
Empire, and get a clear idea of the military strategy
against possible invasions.
On our way back to Cusco we will visit the picturesque
Andean village of Chinchero where the remains of what was
the royal hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui lies. Admire its
well preserved Inca Wall at the Main Square, visit the
beautiful colonial temple built on Inca foundations, with
interesting frescoes on the portico.
Back to Cusco in the afternoon.
Day 11: Cusco – Lima – Home. (B)
Early in the morning, transfer to airport to take a flight
to Lima. Arrival and your home or next destination.
