 Climbing El Misti Volcano
  ( 2 day 1 night)

Summary: El Misti volcano (5825m) haves symmetrical cone of considerable scenic beauty, is located in southern Peru near of Arequipa city, the second largest city in the country, lies at the foot of El Misti in a fertile valley located 2400m above sea level. El Misti is a Quechua name, means the gentleman. El Misti volcano stands at 5825m and lies between the mountain Chachani (6075m) and the volcanoPichu Pichu (5669m), these impressive mountains, located northeast of Arequipa, are visible almost year-round, but especially during winter (April-December).
Misti has been active numerous times since historic records began. The last strong eruption of Misti is thought to have occurred between 1438 and 1471. Many other eruptions have been reported since the mid-15th century affected Inca inhabitants living near the volcano. The last eruption of this volcano was in 1870. Also the archaeologist found several Inca mummies near the crater. Most of the city's colonial buildings were constructed from El Misti's white volcanic stone (sillar).

Intineray Day by Day:(B)= breakfast / (L)= lunch / (D)= dinner

Itinerary.

Day 1: Arequipa - Campsite 4600 meters
At 8am we pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa and transport in a private car to start our excursion to Misti volcano. After 1 hour by car will start to walk to reach the camp. The landscape changes dramatically with increasing altitude due to the different stresses on the plant life. We will camp at 4600 metres after 5 hours walking. In the night we can observe Arequipa City with the lights of the city in the distance and the lights of the stars overhead, while the light of the camp stove provides a warm cup of tea and a hot cooked meal (1L, 1D).

Day 2: Camp - Misti Summit - Arequipa
Very early we have a hot energetic breakfast . After breakfast we start the 5 to 6-hour climb to the summit. The top is a natural observatory - in the distance you can see the Chachani and Picchu Picchu volcanoes, the national Reserve of Aguada Blanca, Lake Salinas, the city of Arequipa, small towns and of course, the unique and beautiful crater of Misti itself. All the energy you expend climbing Misti is returned to you on the descent. If you wish, you can run, ski or slide down the mountainside, which is comprised mostly of sand which cushions your steps and allows you to stop easily when you need to. We pack up the campsite and then descend for two more hours to the place where our transportation left us the day before. We return to Arequipa. (1B, 1L)
