Manu National Park Mountain Bike Tours
  (3 days 2 nights)

Summary: Travel by bike through various ecological floors, from the high Andean Plateau through the Cloud Forest and Dwarf Forest to the Rainforest. Discover the pre-Incan tombs at Ninamarca, watch the brightly-plumaged cock of the rocks in its courtship displays, and see the plant and animal life of the jungle from canoes along the Pilcopata River.
Intineray Day by Day:(B)= breakfast / (L)= lunch / (D)= dinner

You´ll be picked up at your respective hotels in Cusco at 8:00am, after which we´ll depart by private bus along the Pisac route. It´ll take about 1½ hrs to get to Chawaitiry Pass (4,800 masl/15,880 feet). From Chawaitiry we´ll begin our exciting downhill biking adventure. We´ll stop along the way to have a satisfying lunch and rest a bit. We´ll arrive in the picturesque town of Paucartambo, considered the region´s folkloric center, in the evening. Upon our arrival we´ll set up camp and have dinner.

After breakfast we´ll bike for approximately 2½ hrs towards towards Acjanaco Pass (3,530masl/11,870ft), from where one can spy the Amazon below. At Acjanaco, which serves at the entry-point to Manu Biosphere Reserve, we´ll have lunch while discussing the surprising changes in scenery that can be observed here. Our thrilling descent by bike will take us through different ecological floors, from the High Andean Plateau through the Dwarf Forest until the San Pedro Cloud Forest, where we´ll arrive around 5:00pm. Along the way we´ll have the possibility of seeing a large amount of flora and fauna. This includes orchids and tree ferns, butterflies, monkeys, birds, toucans, and tanagers, among others.
The Cloud Forest is the habitat of Peru´s National Bird, the Cock of the Rocks. We´ll visit it´s lek, or communal courtship site, where the males of these colorfully and spectacularly plumaged birds defend their display courts or perches from other males and go through a ritual of bobbing, hopping, and noise-making designed to catch the females´ attention. The Cloud Forest is also home to the only bear in South America and the last of the short-faced bears, the spectacled or Andean bear.
In the Cloud Forest we´ll set up camp and enjoy a satisfying dinner before spending the night.

We´ll get an early start today, heading out after breakfast in our bus or other transport en route to the town of Pilcopata. In Pilcopata we´ll prepare our canoeing equipment and receive a basic explanation of equipment and safety talk from our knowledgeable guide. When we´re ready, we´ll set off along the Pillcopata River, observing cormorants, kingfishers, and a variety of plant and animal life. After about 2 hours we´ll arrive in the town of Atalaya, from where you can decide if you will continue to the Manu National Reserve or return to the city of Cusco. Those who opt for the return trip will arrive in the city of Cusco around 6pm.
