 Olleros to Chavin Trek
  ( 3 days 2 nights )

Summary:This trekking route is made until nowadays by the same footpath where the Ancient Chavin people walked. Chavin culture is considered as the mother culture of all the Peruvian culture, even of the Incas. The route is generally made using the Llamas also the ancient mean of transportation. The starting point is in the Callejon de Huaylas in the West and cross the mountain range to get to the Callejon de Conchucos to Chavin de Huantar ruins, this tour is also called Llamatrek.

Itinerary.

Day 1: Huaraz – Canrey Chico – Tzacracancha (3800m/12464ft). (L) (D)
After breakfast in the Hotel, we'll leave from Huaraz at 8:00hours. We will arrive to Olleros (3450m/11316ft) around 9:00 oclock. Where we will meet our mountain staff and donkeys, llamas. From here we will start our trekking quite easy going up enjoying the splendid views and White Mountain peaks. Early we will arrive our first camp Tzacracancha. Overnight camping at (3800m/12464ft).

Day 2: Llamacorral – Yanashallash pass (4700m/15416ft) – Shongopampa. (B) (L) (D)
Today, early in the morning we will have breakfast and will start hike up at 9:00hours. to get the Yanashallash pass for about 4 hours aprox. Where we will have lunch enjoying the splendid views. Then we will go down hill until second Camp at (3850m). This day we have enjoyed walking in the Pre-Inka trail stone paved some parts, then we will start zigzag path to go down to Shonkopampa, our guide will recommend you to hold windy jackets. Overnight camping at (3850m/12628ft).

Day 3: Shongopampa – Chavin de Huantar (4750m/15580ft) – Return to Huaraz. (B) (L) (D)
Early in the morning after our Andean breakfast we will start our trekking down hill passing by Andean straw huts and humble villages in each steep kids will ask us for sweets, and saying hello, confusing to Americans with Europeans calling “Gringos” you will hear saying “gringo regalame caramelo” it's traditional and they feel friendly receiving a candy from gringo's hands. So finally we will have arrived to Chavin (3100m/10169ft). Immediately we will visit the ruins, and then we will visit the city that's next to the ruins too. Then drive back to Huaraz passing the highest point of Cahuish Tunnel at (4450m/14596ft). Arriving to Huaraz at 8:00pm approximately to the hotel.

WE RECOMMEND TO BRING:
•■Sleeping bag -15ºC (Can be hired in our local office $5 USD per day)
■Small backpack (65lt)
■Rain jacket or poncho, plastic ponchos can be purchased in Arequipa (just in the rain season Dec - April)
■Strong comfortable and waterproof footwear
■Sweater and jacket (something warm)
■Bottle of water and purification tablets and purification tablets (Micropur are recommended and can be bought in local pharmacies in Arequipa)
■Flashlight and batteries
■Hat or cap to protect you from the sun
■Sun block (sun protection cream)
■Insect repellent
■Toiletries, towel and toilet paper
■Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried
