Breakfast in the hotel. Early in the morning, transfer to airport to take a flight to Cusco. Assistance on arrival in Cusco and transfer to your selected hotel. Free time to take a short rest to be acclimatized to the altitude. In the afternoon, city tour of Cusco visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun or Korikancha. Then, drive out of the city to visit the Inca sites of Kenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, built strategically on a hill overlooking Cusco; famous for its enormous carved stones joined with astounding precision to form the outer walls. Some of these stones stand over 9m / 30ft tall and weight over 350 tons. You will receive a briefing about the trail by the guide in your hotel.

Excursion to the “Sacred Valley of the Incas”, a succession of picturesque towns, agricultural terraces and archeological sites. we´ll have the opportunity to bargain with vendors or stroll at the Pisac’s typical Indian market, with a catholic mass service on Sunday (celebrated in Quechua, the native language). Lunch at a local restaurant in the Sacred Valley.

In the afternoon pass through Calca and Urubamba towns to arrive to the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, which was built to guard the entry of this part of the valley and protect it from enemies of the lower jungles; consisting in a series of superimposed terraces of carved stones accessed by long staircases. We will have the opportunity to walk through the quaint streets of the nearby town, religious and agricultural centre during the Inca Empire, and get a clear idea of the military strategy against possible invasions. On our way back to Cusco we will visit the picturesque Andean village of Chinchero where the remains of what was the royal hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui lies. Admire its well preserved Inca Wall at the Main Square, visit the beautiful colonial temple built on Inca foundations, with interesting frescoes on the portico. Back to Cusco in the afternoon.

We will pick you up early from your hotel in Cusco at 6 AM and drive 25 minutes to the trailhead, known Tambomachay located at an altitude of (3,700 mt. / 12,139 ft.). Along the way we will pass Sacsayhuaman, Q’enqo and Puca Pucar. Tambomachay is the trailhead for this trek and where we will meet the remainder of our team (the horses, muleteers, and chef). We will pack our gear onto the horses and start the trek. We start by gently uphill to reach to Sicllaqasa pass (4,100 mt. / 13,615 ft.), which is the lookout point of Cusco valley, from this pass, we will enjoy gorgeous views of Cusco and the surrounding mountains. Then, we will keep hiking throught highland valley, surrounded by a breathtaking view accompanied by the flora and fauna of the Peruvian Andes the path leads up to the next Queullaqocha pass (4,200 mt. / 13,780 ft.), from this pass, we’ll withness the stunning views around and massive mountains further away such as: Veronica, Pitusiray, Chicon, Sawasiray. Also, we’ll see the Queullaqocha lagoon and we walk close by, where we’ll see highland birds. Upon arriving at the lunch spot, we take rest while the chef will prepare a delicious lunch. After lunch, we will once again ascend towards the Qoricocha Pass (4,150 mt. / 13,615 ft.), from this point we’ll have some awesome views of Chinchero Plateau, Piuray lagoon, Qoricocha lagoon. Subsequently we’ll ascend to the last pass known as Rumicruz (4,250 mt. / 13,944 ft.), and we’ll arrive to the Incan rock quarry, which was the main rock source for the construction of Huchuy Qosqo, eventually we’ll arrive to Pumamarka  highland rural community (3,800 mt. / 12,467 ft.), where we camp. In the evening we will have afternoon tea, followed by dinner and enjoy our supper underneath the great starry sky.

In the morning we’ll wake up with a steaming cup of coca tea provide by our chef and then, emjoy a fantastic breakfast at our camp. After breakfast, we set off our hike to Huchuy Qosqo archeological site. From the campsite is downhill toward the Leon Punku ravine, we’ll see the remains of the Incan bridge and remains of the Inca trail. Following through scenic valleys, a fabulous canyon to reach at Huchuy Qosqo Incan site that is located at an altitude of (3,600 mt. / 11,811 ft.). Huchuy Qosqo Incan archaeological complex was built on the mountaintop, surrounded by clear blue skies above and bounded by streams on both sides. The Huchuy Qosqo Inca site is comprised by temples, palaces, ceremonial center, crops terracings, and granaries, where you’ll get a rich history lesson delivered by your local expert guide. After our tour, we will hike downhill by open terrain and switchback trail for 2.5 hours to Lamay village. At Lamay village, we will have lunch and say goodbye to our crew. After lunch, We will then drive for 1 hour and 20 minutes to Ollantaytambo train station to take the train to Machu Picchu town (the train journey is under 2 hours). When we arrive you will check in to your hotel room, and have time to take a shower and rest. Overnight there.

Rise early and head to the bus station for the 20-minute drive up to the entrance of Machu Picchu, where you will embark on a 2-hour guided tour of the citadel. If you choose to breakfast at 5 a.m. or pack a breakfast box, you can reach the citadel in time to see the sun rise over the Inca ruins.

The magnificent handiwork of the Incas is abundantly evident even centuries after it was first set into place by genius engineers. The precision of the carved walls contrasts sharply with the wild, verdant mountains and steep highlands. The city itself can be divided into 3 areas: the urban, agricultural, and adjacent zones. In the urban sector you can find the Temple of the Sun, Royal Tomb, ceremonial fountains, Royal Palace, Temple of the Three Windows, Main Temple, Intiwatana and more. The agricultural sector includes the cemetery and the Funeral Rock. Finally, the adjacent zones include Intipunku, the Temple of the Moon, Huayna Picchu, and the Drawbridge.

You may want to take advantage of Machu Picchu’s spiritual setting to meditate and relax. But the more adventurous can take a 90-minute climb up the nearby peak of Huayna Picchu. On the way down from Huayna Picchu, take the trek past the Temple of the Moon, once a retreat for Inca nobles and priests. The extra trek is not for the faint of heart and must be done with extreme caution. However, the opportunity to see Machu Picchu from another angle is often enough to draw the more adventurous visitor. Note that park officials limit the number of visitors to Huayna Picchu to 400 per day and tickets need to be purchased in advance.

After your day in Machu Picchu, you will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes to collect your belongings from your hotel and return to Cusco by train, where you will be met for a transfer to your hotel.

Transfer to the airport for your departure to Lima and your connecting international flight. Arrive home full of great memories of the rich tradition of Colonial Lima and the mystical Land of the Incas included Inca Trail.
