Peru Adventure: Choquequirao and Machu Picchu Trek
Start your journey in Lima, located at sea level (0 feet / 0 meters), where you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in Peru’s rich cultural heritage through a comprehensive sightseeing tour. From Lima, you’ll fly to Cusco, situated at 11,152 feet (3,400 meters), the historic gateway to the Inca Empire. Cusco’s vibrant blend of Inca and colonial architecture sets the stage for the adventure that awaits in the Peruvian highlands.
The trek takes you to the impressive Choquequirao, perched at 10,207 feet (3,114 meters). Often referred to as the “sister city” of Machu Picchu, Choquequirao offers an unparalleled experience with its stunning archaeological ruins and panoramic views of the Apurímac River Canyon. After exploring Choquequirao, you will journey through the lush landscapes and rugged terrain back to Cusco before heading to the Sacred Valley and the renowned Machu Picchu, located at 7,970 feet (2,430 meters). Here, amidst dramatic mountain scenery, you’ll discover the majestic ruins of the Inca citadel, completing a trek that blends natural beauty with ancient history.

In Lima city: Hotel pick up for a guided tour of the city of Lima includes the main tourist attractions such as: the historical center, the Republican square of San Martin, the historic and famous Plaza de Armas, the most precious jewel of the historic center of Lima, the Convent of San Francisco and its Catacombs The Tour continues to the modern district of Miraflores, the emblematic Park of Love with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean where you can enjoy an impressive panorama.The duration of the guided tour to the city of Lima is approximately 4 hours, rest of the day to your leisure, overnight in Lima.
After breakfast in your hotel, our personnel will pick you up and will take you to the international airport of Lima. Here you will have to make your check-in and go on board your flight to Cusco that lasts 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Reception and welcome at the airport or at the land terminal to transfer you to your chosen hotel, you will have a free morning so you may get acclimated, at the afternoon after your lunch we will pass to your hotel to pick you up (13:30 hours) to begin with the City tour, more than visiting the city of Cusco in this tour we will visit the archeological centers that are by the high part of the city of Cusco, the only place into the city to visit will be Qoricanch (temple of the Sun) that in Inca times was one of the most important temples due to that we will be able to appreciate its fine and marvelous construction, then we will have the tour to Sacsayhuaman that is located in the upper part of Cusco where we will have a beautiful panoramic view of the whole city of Cusco and be amazed with its cyclopean constructions made by the Incas with huge stones between 5 and 128 tons of weight, continuing with the tour we will arrive to Qenqo that is a ceremonial place dedicated to the Pachamama (Mother Earth) this is a natural formation of stone that the Incas scarves and adequate to take place the ceremonies of worship, after we will continue with the tour visiting Pukapukara which is a fortress where the control of entrance of people to Cusco was made. Then we will end the tour visiting Tambomachay which is a temple dedicated to the water, after visiting this archeological center, we will return to the city of Cusco (18:30 hours).
Very early at 04:00 am we will pick you up from your hotel and then drive 4 hours in our minivan to Capuliyoc (2,800 m.s.n.m .). On the way, there are spectacular views of villages, valleys, and snowy mountains. Once we arrive, we will meet our staff (muleteers with their horses) who packed all our equipment in the horses. From here, we can enjoy the spectacular view of the Inca city of Choquequirao, the Apurímac canyon and the impressive snowy mountains such as Padreyoc, Qoriwayrachina, Pumasillo, then we will walk downhill for 3 hours to Chiquisca (1,800 m.a.s.l.), for lunch. After lunch, we continue for 2 more hours downhill to our first camp at La Playa Rosalina’s.
After breakfast we will continue our way to Choquequirao, we will cross the bridge and walk for 2 hours to get Santa Rosa Village to take a rest, then we will continue along a narrow road the next 3 hours until we reach Marampata (2,900 masl) where we will have lunch while we enjoyed the view that this beautiful place offers once again. After lunch, we will walk for 2 more hours to the camping area of our second night, just 20 minutes from the archaeological zone.
During the morning our guide will take you through the agricultural terraces and the waterfall will tour each of the archaeological sectors explaining the history and importance of the site, then we will return to the camp to eat a delicious lunch prepared by our chef. After lunch, we will visit the terraces of the restored llamas about 300 meters (1000 feet) below the main structures such as; the house of the Inca, main temple, temple of water, in the afternoon we will begin the walk back visiting the house of the priest and the platform of the sacrifices and the rituals, hoping to be able to observe again the condors on their return to their homes.
After breakfast, we will start our way back that will be much easier and quieter first to reach Marampata and then begin the descent to Santa Rosa and then reach the banks of the Apurimac River (1500 m.a.s.l.), in this place our lunch will wait for us. After lunch we will continue the walk for two hours until we reach Chiquisca (1,800 m.a.s.l.); In this place, we will set up our last camp for the night.
We will begin our day early with the ascent to the Capuliyoc pass (2,800 m.a.s.l.), from where we can appreciate the great Apurimac Canyon again and say goodbye to Choquequirao. After a well-deserved rest and a light lunch, we will say goodbye to the muleteers and begin our return trip by minivan to Cusco.
We will pick you up at your hotel (8:30 a.m.) to then start our tour in the Sacred Valley of the Incas that is a beautiful place with landscapes and beautiful views, its people, its craft markets and other touristic attractions.
In Pisaq we will visit the craft market where we will find works in textile, pottery, goldsmith and others, after visiting this nice town we will address to the high part of the mountain where the archeological center is found with its imponent constructions of farming terraces and other constructions that spite of having more than 500 years are found intact, after visiting this place we will continue our tour by the riverbanks of Wilcamayu River (Sacred River) until arriving up to Urubamba where you will have time to take lunch and rest a little to then continue with the tour in Ollantaytambo a very singular and pintoresque town because the settlers of the place still use the Inca constructions as dwellings and their narrow streets stoned ones make of this place a beautiful traditional town. The religious center is found by the high part of the mountain where the temple of the Sun continues imposing its majesty; in this place ends the tour approximately at 16:00hours to then address to the train station, from there we will take our train towards Aguas Calientes (town of Machupicchu) 1 hour and a half), once arrived to the train station in Aguas Calientes the personnel of the chosen hotel will be waiting with their names to take you to your hotel, once arrived to your hotel we will meet the guide to coordinate the tour for the next day.
We will take breakfast very earl to then address to the bus station that will transfer up to the Sanctuary of Machupicchu, arriving there the guide will be waiting at the entrance of Machupicchu. Then we will begin the tour you will have approximately 2 hours of information (guided tour) after you will have free time until 3 in the afternoon in this free time you may be able to take pictures and if you like you may visit the mountain of Huaynapichu after the free time we have to get down again by bs towards Aguas Calientes, there you will have free time for have lunch to then address to the train station to return to Cusco, our train will depart at 19:00 hours (you may ask an earlier train schedule) you have to be a half an hour before departure time of the train, this train will take you to the station of Ollantaytambo where we will be waiting to take you back to the city of Cusco at 22:00 approximately.
Breakfast at your hotel. Transfer from hotel to the airport for your flight to Lima and then take your connecting flight to home or continue to next destination.
To drink coca tea during the day: Helps reduce the effect of altitude (avoid drinking it before going to sleep, as it could be a stimulant and you may not sleep well).
